Terms of Use
Last updated: October 15, 2026
The short version
- Low Poly Pictures is free. Make, save, download and export as many movies as you like, for fun, for school or for work.
- Your movies are yours. They stay on your device, and we don't claim any rights to them.
- The actors, sets, sounds and music come from Microsoft's 1995 program, which Microsoft released as open source. Low Poly Pictures isn't connected to Microsoft.
- The open-source parts keep their own licences, and these terms never limit them.
- Please be kind to the site: no attacks, no overloading it, nothing illegal.
- It's provided “as is”. Download copies of the movies that matter to you.
- Under 18? Please read these terms with a parent or guardian.
1. About these terms
These terms of use (“terms”) are an agreement between you and Keller Concepts, who runs Low Poly Pictures (“we”, “us”). They cover the website lowpolypictures.com, the movie maker at lowpolypictures.com/studio/ (“the studio”), lowpoly.mov, and anything else we offer that links to these terms (together, “Low Poly Pictures”).
By using Low Poly Pictures you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use it. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle information, the Licenses page lists the open-source licences, and the Copyright & trademarks page explains how to report a problem. If we add features with rules of their own, such as sharing movies online, we'll show you those rules before you use them.
2. Who can use Low Poly Pictures
- Low Poly Pictures is for everyone. You don't need an account, and there's no minimum age to make movies.
- If you're under 18 (or under the age of majority where you live), please read these terms with your parent or guardian. Parents and guardians accept these terms on behalf of their children and are responsible for how their children use Low Poly Pictures.
- If you use Low Poly Pictures for a school, library, club or company, you confirm that you're allowed to accept these terms for it. Teachers: the studio doesn't collect any information about students (see the Privacy Policy).
- Some future features, such as accounts or sharing, may have a minimum age. We'll say so when they arrive.
3. Your permission to use Low Poly Pictures
As long as you follow these terms, we give you a personal, worldwide, non-exclusive, non-transferable permission (a licence) to use the website and the studio in your web browser, free of charge, to make, play, save, download and export movies for any lawful purpose, including commercial ones. We may end this permission if you break these terms (section 13). It comes on top of the rights the open-source licences give you (section 5), which we can't take away.
4. Your movies
4.1 What you make is yours. You own what you create: your stories, the way you put your scenes together, and the sounds, voices, images and words you add. We don't receive your movies and we don't claim any rights to them.
4.2 Our parts in your movies. Some of what appears in your movies and exports comes from Low Poly Pictures' own software and artwork, such as the HD stage and our HD backgrounds and textures. We give you a permanent, worldwide, royalty-free permission to use, copy, publish, sell and share these as part of your movies, videos and GIFs, for any purpose. This doesn't let you take our artwork out of your movies and distribute it on its own, for example as a texture pack.
4.3 The 1995 content. The actors, props, sets, sounds and music come from Microsoft 3D Movie Maker (1995), which Microsoft released in 2022 under the MIT License (see Licenses). Your use of that content is governed by that licence. It lets you use, copy, modify and distribute the content, including commercially; its main condition is that Microsoft's copyright and licence notice is included with copies of it. Music in the studio is played with the GeneralUser GS SoundFont, whose licence allows music made with it to be used privately or commercially, and text uses the Comic Relief, Comic Neue and Liberation fonts under the SIL Open Font License. We pass these on as we received them: we can't give you rights we don't have, and we can't promise that every piece of the 1995 content is free of other people's rights.
4.4 Names and endorsements. The MIT License doesn't cover trademarks. Please don't present your movies as made, sponsored or approved by Microsoft or by us. You're very welcome to say that a movie was “made with Low Poly Pictures”.
4.5 Your responsibility. You're responsible for your movies and for any files you add, such as sounds, images or other content you load from your computer. Only use material you have the right to use. Files you load stay on your device: we don't provide, check or host them. If you share a movie or a video, follow the rules of the place where you share it, and respect other people's privacy: don't include anyone's personal information, image or voice without their permission.
5. Open-source software
Low Poly Pictures is built from open-source software. Each component is covered by its own licence, listed on the Licenses page. Those licences apply to those components, nothing in these terms limits the rights they give you, and if these terms and an open-source licence disagree about a component, the licence wins.
- The browser port of the engine is open source under the MIT License at github.com/stonesalltheway1/low-poly-pictures-engine.
- FluidSynth (LGPL-2.1). You may modify the FluidSynth library, relink the app with your modified version for your own use, and reverse engineer the app (including decompiling and disassembling it) as far as needed to debug such modifications. For each version we publish, the Source code page offers the exact FluidSynth source and a relink kit (the rest of the app as compiled object files, with the exact link command), which you may use for this purpose.
These rights apply despite anything else in these terms, including section 7.
6. Our content and trademarks
Apart from the open-source components and Microsoft's content, Low Poly Pictures, including its own features (such as the HD stage), its website, text, design, logo and artwork, is © Low Poly Pictures, all rights reserved.
“Low Poly Pictures” and our logo are our trademarks. Please don't use them in a way that suggests we made, sponsor or endorse something we didn't, or as part of the name of your own product, channel, group or domain.
Low Poly Pictures is not affiliated with or endorsed by Microsoft. Microsoft and 3D Movie Maker are trademarks of the Microsoft group of companies. Other names may be trademarks of their owners.
7. Using the site fairly
Please don't:
- attack, overload or disrupt the site or the network it runs on, for example with denial-of-service traffic, excessive automated requests, or bulk downloading beyond what the studio does when you use it;
- try to get around security measures, probe or scan the site for weaknesses without our permission, or access anything that isn't meant to be public. If you find a security problem, please tell us at hello@lowpolypictures.com; we welcome good-faith reports;
- copy, mirror, frame or re-host the site or our own (non-open-source) parts, or present them as yours (the open-source parts may be used as their licences allow);
- reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble our non-open-source parts, except as section 5 or the law allows;
- use Low Poly Pictures in a way that breaks the law or infringes anyone's rights, or to make or spread material that exploits or endangers children, harasses or threatens anyone, or impersonates someone;
- remove or change copyright, licence or trademark notices;
- pretend to be us, or suggest that you're connected with us or with Microsoft when you aren't.
Search engines that follow our robots.txt file are welcome.
8. Price, donations and future features
Low Poly Pictures is free to use and has no ads. We may accept voluntary donations or offer optional paid extras in the future. If we do:
- you'll see the price and the terms before you pay, and nothing will be charged without your clear agreement;
- donations are gifts that support the project; they don't buy features, ownership or influence, and they can't be refunded except where the law or the payment service's own rules provide otherwise;
- payments will be handled by a payment service under its own terms, and any payment for a minor must be made by a parent or guardian.
9. Changes and availability
We work hard to keep Low Poly Pictures running, but we can't promise that it will always be available, uninterrupted or free of errors, or that any particular feature will be added or stay available. We may change, add or remove features or content (including 1995 content, if we ever have to stop hosting it), and we may suspend or end the service. We'll try to give notice of big changes on the site.
Your movies are stored by your browser, not by us. We can't recover them if your browser deletes them, the device is lost, or the site's data is cleared, so please download copies of movies that matter to you.
10. Ideas and feedback
We love hearing ideas. If you send us suggestions or feedback, we may use them to improve Low Poly Pictures without owing you anything for them. This doesn't give us any rights in your movies.
11. Disclaimers
Low Poly Pictures is provided free of charge, “as is” and “as available”. To the fullest extent the law allows, we make no warranties or promises of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title and non-infringement, and including any promise that the service will be accurate, available or secure, or that your saved movies will be kept. Some places don't allow these disclaimers, so some of them may not apply to you. Nothing in these terms limits any rights you have as a consumer that can't be waived by agreement.
12. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows:
- we aren't liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive damages, or for loss of data (including movies), profits, revenue or goodwill, arising out of or related to Low Poly Pictures, even if we were told they were possible; and
- our total liability for all claims related to Low Poly Pictures is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim and US$50.
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, for gross negligence or wilful misconduct, or any other liability that the law doesn't allow to be excluded or limited.
If you're a consumer in the UK, the EU or another country whose law gives you this protection, the following applies instead of the first paragraph of this section where the two differ: we're responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of our breaking these terms or failing to use reasonable care and skill, but not for loss or damage that isn't foreseeable, and not for loss of profit, business or business opportunity if you use Low Poly Pictures for a business.
13. Suspension and ending
You can stop using Low Poly Pictures at any time. We may block or limit access for anyone who breaks these terms or puts the site or other people at risk, usually through our hosting provider's security tools. Sections 4.2, 5, 6 and 10 to 16 continue to apply after your use ends.
14. Disputes and governing law
If you have a problem with Low Poly Pictures, please email us first: most things can be sorted out quickly. Before either of us starts a court case, we'll each try in good faith for 30 days to resolve the dispute informally. This doesn't stop either of us from asking a court for urgent relief or from going to a small claims court.
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Oklahoma, USA, and applicable US federal law, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute will be decided by the state or federal courts located in Oklahoma, and we both agree to their jurisdiction, except that either of us may bring an individual claim in a small claims court that has jurisdiction. These terms don't require arbitration.
If you're a consumer living outside the United States, you also keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you live, and you may bring a claim in the courts there. Nothing in these terms takes away rights that a minor has under the law.
15. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time, for example when we add features or when the law changes. We'll post the new version here with a new date. For important changes, we'll put a notice on the site at least 14 days before they take effect, unless a change has to happen sooner for legal or security reasons or only concerns new features. If you keep using Low Poly Pictures after a change takes effect, the new terms apply; if you don't agree with them, please stop using it.
16. General
- Whole agreement. These terms, together with the Privacy Policy and the open-source licences, are the whole agreement between you and us about Low Poly Pictures.
- If part doesn't apply. If a court finds part of these terms unenforceable, that part will be applied as far as the law allows, and the rest stays in effect.
- No waiver. If we don't enforce part of these terms straight away, we can still enforce it later.
- Transfer. We may transfer these terms to whoever takes over Low Poly Pictures (for example, a company set up to run it). We'll post a notice, and your rights won't be reduced. You may not transfer your rights under these terms, except rights under open-source licences, which follow those licences.
- Other people. Apart from the rights open-source licences give, no one other than you and us has rights under these terms.
- Things beyond our control. We aren't responsible for delays or failures caused by events beyond our reasonable control, such as network outages.
- Language. If these terms are translated, the English version applies.
