About Low Poly Pictures
Low Poly Pictures is a free movie maker that runs in your browser. You pick a set, cast actors and props, make them move and talk, add sound effects, music, your own voice and 3D titles, and play back your movie. It's made for everyone who made movies like this in the nineties, and for the kids they make movies with today.
Where it comes from
In 1995 Microsoft released 3D Movie Maker, a program for making 3D animated movies. In May 2022 Microsoft published its source code and content as open source under the MIT License. Since then the community has kept it alive: 3DMMForever and 3DMMEx (by Ben Stone and contributors) brought the code to modern compilers, 64-bit Windows, Linux and macOS.
Low Poly Pictures takes the 3DMMEx engine and compiles it to WebAssembly, so the original program runs in a browser tab, with the original actors, sets, sounds and music. On top of that it adds what a browser needs: saving in the browser, downloads, video and GIF export, sharp scaling at any window size, and sound and music through the web.
The whole story, from 1995 to today, is on the history page.
