Accessibility
Last updated: October 15, 2026
The short version: we want everyone to be able to make movies. Our website pages aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. The movie-making studio is the original 1995 program running in your browser, and parts of it are hard or impossible to use with a screen reader or without a mouse. If something gets in your way, please tell us at hello@lowpolypictures.com.
1. Our commitment
Low Poly Pictures aims to meet WCAG 2.2 level AA on its website pages (the home page, the guides, About, the legal and licence pages, and the controls around the studio), and to improve the studio itself step by step without breaking the movies people have made since 1995.
2. How accessible the site is
Low Poly Pictures is partially conformant with WCAG 2.2 level AA: the website pages are designed to meet it, and the studio does not fully meet it.
Website pages
- Pages use real headings, landmarks, lists and tables, and the page language is set.
- Images have text alternatives; decorative images are hidden from screen readers.
- Everything can be reached with a keyboard, and the keyboard focus is clearly marked.
- Text contrast is at least 7:1 against the background.
- Pages reflow on small screens and work with browser zoom; a few wide tables scroll sideways on very narrow screens.
- If you've asked your device to reduce motion, the pages turn off their small animations.
The studio
What works:
- The buttons around the studio (Start, Download movie, Export, Settings, About, Full screen) are labelled buttons you can use with a keyboard. Its dialogs and the Settings panel close with the Escape key, and Escape also stops an export.
- Status messages, such as “Saved” or a lost connection, are announced to screen readers.
- The picture scales sharply to any window size, with browser zoom, or in full screen.
- Music and “voices & sounds” have separate volume controls.
- The scanline “TV look” is off unless you turn it on.
Known limitations:
- The movie-making area is a picture drawn by the 1995 program, so screen readers can't read its buttons, menus or text.
- Most tools need a mouse or trackpad, including dragging actors and props. The 1995 program has some keyboard shortcuts, but you can't make a whole movie with the keyboard alone.
- Touch screens work only partly; some tools are hard to use on phones and tablets.
- Some guidance in the 1995 program is spoken or animated, and the intro and other short films have no captions.
- Some information is shown only by icons, colours or animation.
- We haven't yet checked every 1995 animation against the guidelines for flashing content. If anything flashes in a way that bothers you, please tell us.
These limits come from the original program's design. We're exploring ways to improve them, such as keyboard alternatives and captions, in ways that keep old movies working.
3. Compatibility
The studio is designed for current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari on a computer with a mouse or trackpad. It also opens on phones and tablets, with the limits above. It relies on HTML, CSS, JavaScript, WebAssembly, the Web Audio API and WAI-ARIA.
4. Feedback and help
If you run into a barrier, or need any of our pages (such as the Privacy Policy or Terms of Use) in another format, email hello@lowpolypictures.com with the subject “Accessibility”. It helps to tell us the page or the part of the studio, what you were trying to do, and the browser and any assistive technology you use. We aim to reply within 5 business days.
5. How we assessed this
This statement is based on our own review of the site on October 15, 2026: keyboard-only navigation, checks of the page structure, labels and text alternatives, contrast measurements, and layout checks on a 320-pixel-wide screen. The site hasn't had an independent audit yet. We review this statement when we make significant changes to the site.
